Description
This is an entire unit for the Flight curriculum. It fits the expectations for the Ontario Science Curriculum. If you are considering it, please consider my bundle of science for grade 6 as it will save money overall, and right now is on sale as I’m currently finishing the last unit.
This unit includes absolutely everything you could use for the strand either language or science. This unit is designed to be taught as either a series of guided reading centers, or as a science unit. Students will enjoy the inquiry style research activities and discovery and teachers you will enjoy less stress as lessons are pre-planned and require no effort on your part! Writing, reading, and science all mix effortlessly in this unit to make covering more of the curriculum easier. All lessons come with a detailed lesson instruction sheet and can easily be printed and left for a substitute. As the units are also pdf’s they can be put on google classroom easily and those students requiring assistive tech will have no difficulty accessing the pages using google read and write.
The unit covers:
– Properties of Air
– Flight and the forces involved in it
– Pros and Cons of air travel
– Inquiry style final project with a fun finish that can be shared with other classes
– many simple experiments that work with household items
Language Concepts Covered through questions:
– Inferencing
– Summarizing
– Narrative Writing
– Research and inquiry skills
– Explanation and Understanding of Science Vocabulary
– Opinion questions
– Synonyms
– Reflecting on learning
Plus the unit includes many easy-to-follow experiments that won’t break the bank in acquiring supplies. Most will be items either found in the school or at home. There is also an experiment using makey-makey boards but if these are not available an alternate is provided. However, if you are looking to really engage your child makey-makey boards teach a lot about circuits and kids love them!
Furthermore, I have thrown in a section of Vocabulary cards that you can print, laminate, and put up on a bulletin board to keep from year to year. They come with a brief explanation of the word. I have noted that this could take two months, however, you could easily complete these lessons within a couple of weeks if you used them for language and science.
This unit will come with worksheets and activities. You will not need to supplement with anything else!
